Endoscopy Center Registered Nurse Director
General Summary of Duties:
Promotes and restores patients' health by developing day-to- day management and long-term planning of the patient care area; collaborating with physicians and directing and developing staff.
Supervision Exercised:
Daily work supervision of the Staff Nurse, LPNs, Orderly/Medical/Nursing Assistant, Medical Clerk, Surgery Techs.
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking or other means for mobility for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Required corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee si occasionally exposed to blood or other body fluids, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other conditions common to an Ambulatory Surgery Center.Example of Duties: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned)
1. Identifies patient service requirements
2. Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
3. Maintains nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
4. Assures quality of care by developing and interpreting clinic and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care; enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations; measuring health outcomes against standards; making or recommending adjustments.
5. Maintains nursing, surgical and axillary staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training nurses and auxiliary staff.
6. Completes patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning nursing and staff; following up on work results.
7. Maintains nursing, surgical and axillary staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
8. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, and families.
9. Establishes patient care goals; teaching and counseling patients and family and reinforcing their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills.
10. Provides information to patients and health care team by answering questions and requests.
11. Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
12. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.
13. Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
14. Maintains nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports; identifying trends; anticipating needed supplies; approving requisitions and cost allocations.
15. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. 16. Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills &Abilities:
Knowledge of management and nursing organizational theory to direct an endoscopy center. Knowledge of organization policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee development to train staff. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skills in identifying problems, researching, and recommending solutions. Skills in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skills in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to supervise the members of a health care team. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly.
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
EXPERIENCE:
Registered nurse with management or supervisor experience preferred.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:
Current Louisiana State Nursing license. Current BLS certification.
Current ACLS certification.
